The OG’s…a book club.

A couple of years ago I was in a book club which I enjoyed. It broke up when the founder had some life changes and no one else was in a place to pick up the leadership role. I have looked for another book club but just wasn’t finding the right fit.

About a week ago I got a group text from one of the members of the 1st book club I was in asking if the group wanted to resurrect. The discussion was lively and the core members that were always at the meeting agreed it was a great idea. We started planning and that is where my technical skills come into play. Not thinking and having several mass chats going I decided to nickname the chat. I named it OG/Book Club. OG for Original Group obviously.

Of course, my friend had to ask if it stood for Original Group or Original Gangsters. A brief back and forth the group agreed both are correct. Nothing says gangster more than a book club that meets in coffee shops.

We decided to try something new. Instead of picking one book we picked a theme. This month is biographical fiction. This makes it a little less like homework. It should also prevent what she said and what he already said discussions. And occasionally a book that no one liked. We are hoping this will lead to lively discussions and everyone leaving with a good book recommendation or two.

Last go around the location changed monthly adding to the craziness of trying to keep it up and going. The other book clubs I tried also move their meetings making it more difficult to always commit. One week a meeting is half an hour from home the next an hour and a half. We decided to remove that rub from membership. When we meet is standardized as is the location.

I am curious of how the new theme system works. I will update you all in a few months.

If you have any book recommendations, drop them in the comments. -Lady R.
